Obvious enough, the first song on a mix is important. It sets the tone for the whole mix.
What I don’t understand is why this hasn’t been addressed yet, I searched everywhere on proper placement of songs in a dj mix and returned nothing.
You cant have something faster or harder than the rest of your music, or it will really screw up the build of energy. I choose to usually go with something light and playful, usually a remix of an already popular song. Though lately, I havent been doing this, I have been going against what I feel is right because if you lose someone on the first song, you lose them for your whole mix.
I will post a part two explaining the placement of the rest of the mix.
I think a lot of DJs ignore this, but for the casual listener, a good first impression is what will keep them listening.
Also, keep checking back, I have a really good october mix that will be released in less than a week.

I realize this mix is for august, but better late than never!
I did something different with this one, a little further on the progressive side. I am very impressed with how it turned out. This one, you can really feel it in your chest.
The next one will be out in the next few days, maybe a little more on the funky house side.

I’m particularly proud of this one, not only is it mixed flawlessly (in my eyes), but I am extremely happy with the song selection. I had an extra month to toil over which songs will be included, and I had a bit of inspiration (you know who you are).
Enjoy, and leave feedback if you want!

OK, something completely off topic while I wait for my new website to upload: Priorities.
Lets just say I have multiple someones that are close to me in my life that just cant get their shit together. All of them being well into the age of maturity, they seem to do things that are not productive in their lives, or they do things that seem out of order of importance.
I really don’t know if it is lack of motivation, lack of planning/goals, or simply just not caring either way. People do things based on comfort, generally, whatever is easiest, people will do. If sitting at home, watching TV and eating all day is the most comfortable way of doing things, then that is what people will do. Pushing that comfortability is the only way to progress and make your life better.
Now don’t get me wrong, relaxing and being lazy is a good thing, it keeps you refreshed, and the creative juices flow a thousand times better when there is a good balance between work and play. Though it should be a reward and not an entitlement.
For those that care, a good way to avoid this is to make a list of priorities. For me, family and friends are pretty much on the top, learning, business, health, cleanliness/organization and so on. So I constantly ask myself: “Are you fulfilling your priorities?” “Will you feel accomplished at the end of the day?” If I do this, I reward myself that night, or the next day with relax time.
We all know that we only have one life to live here, we only are 28 years old once, we absolutely have to push ourselves to the limit or our lives will never feel fulfilled. In my opinion, this is part of the reason why there is so much divorce, so little education, and so many unhappy, unfulfilled people out there.
